After graduating from the Art Academy in Utrecht in 2001, everybody told FLORIAN that if he wanted to work in film, he needed to go to the Netherlands Film Academy. Well, let’s say he had different thoughts about the whole thing. So instead he just grabbed the Yellow Pages and started to call production companies. ‘Do I need a degree to work with you?’ he asked them, and before he even got a chance to put down the phone he was invited to come to the set to wash dishes. Unpaid of course, but who cares, he got his career started. Being a self-made man, he has been working as a Production Designer for almost a decade now, making films that move you. How, that doesn’t matter so much. It can be in a funny, cheerful or melancholic way, as long as it touches and sticks he’s happy. That he’s so good at what he does, might have something to do with him wanting to be a king. Back in the days when he was a child, but actually still. Not because to yield power or have people live by his rules, no, not at all. Only because he wants to create his own kingdom in which the imaginary world and the real one come together and we can see what he has to show us. Maybe that is why he named his company Uncrowned king.
