Born in Benoni, South Africa, SEAN grew up bouncing between continents before landing in the Netherlands at eleven — armed with a crash course in Dutch and a love for building things, from pencil crossbows to DIY projectors. After a brief detour at HKU, he realised on his first real film set — holding an ARRI for the first time, that this was where he belonged. He graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2023. He gravitates toward fiction that lives between arthouse intimacy and larger cinematic worlds. Strong visual concepts drive him, but he always leaves space to react to whatever unfolds in the moment — resulting in work that feels intentional yet sincere, aesthetically refined but naturally spontaneous. Commercials too, as long as they have some soul. Outside film, he’s powered by burgers, Thai food, and absurd amounts of coffee from cafés in Amsterdam. He spills things constantly — once a cappuccino minutes before stepping onstage at the Film Academy awards — and he’s hopeless with names. And waking him up at night? Don’t. Unless it’s for a perfect coffee or a dream shoot.
